The services of the first African-American regiments after the Civil War, until the integration of the Army under Truman is an area that Fort Leavenworth has played an important role. With the dedication of a new monument this summer to the 555th Parachute Infantry Regiment, the service of African-Americans throughout the past two centuries is commemorated on post.
The history of the U.S. Army from first exploring the western frontier to the Mexican Punitive Expedition under John "Black Jack" Pershing is the focus of the Frontier Army Museum, and our book sections highlight that period in our nation's development.
