About the Friends of the Frontier Army Museum
Founded in 1969, the Museum Friends have been providing valuable volunteer and financial assistance to the Frontier Army Museum at Fort Leavenworth for almost 40 years.
Our mission is to support museum programs through fund raising and volunteer efforts. The funds raised through these activities represent more than 60% of the museum’s operating budget. The funds are also used to acquire new artifacts and update exhibits. Our efforts enable the museum to offer visitors the Nation’s premier collection highlighting the Frontier Army experience.
How to Get Involved
Volunteer to serve in many capacities at the museum: as a tour guide, storyteller, or committee worker in support of fundraisers. Whether it is a few hours a week, during your lunch hour or on weekends, there are interesting and important positions for you.
Fundraisers
Help plan and conduct the Haunted House Tour, Historic Homes Tour and the Mother-Daughter Tea each year. We are always looking for volunteers with new ideas to help make these FFAM sponsored events all come together.
Tour Guides
Lead groups of children or adults through the museum, sharing the stories behind the exhibits. Training is provided.
Storytellers/Puppeteers
Share the history of the Frontier Army in a unique way with young visitors to the museum. Scripts and props are provided.
Bring new life to a century-old uniform or period weapons, watch young eyes widen to tales of the exploits of a cavalry man…Friends of the Frontier Army Museum volunteers make history come alive!
