The United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) was first established in 1874 by an Act of Congress to improve the treatment of military prisoners confined in various state penitentiaries and stockades. Over the past 132 years, the USDB has been the leader in military corrections, setting the standard for corre…ctional excellence in the Department of Defense. This brief will trace the history of USDB from the old walled institution to the new state-of-the-art facility using historical pictures from the USDB archives. There will be a book signing after the presentation. The talk will provide an overview of significant leaders, programs, events, and infamous inmates of the Department of Defense’s only maximum custody correctional facility
